Most common questions about reassurance scans.
Many parents-to-be often want to have another "quick look" a baby if they are only having one scan with their maternity hospital, but it is too early to get the best from a 3D4D scan, or else they prefer to look at baby in the traditional 2D black and white ultrasound.
A reassurance scan is a bonding scan, similar to a black and white early pregnancy scan, except that it is performed after 14 weeks, when the dating part of the scan is a little less accurate. It is a 2D ultrasound which takes about 15 minutes.
The sonographer will check baby's heartbeat, check for twins/multiples, take measurements to estimate your due date, and have a good look at baby in 2D ultrasound. You will receive at least 4 2D black and white prints of the scan.
Please note that this is not a diagnostic scan and does not replace a scan from your doctor/hospital.
We perform reassurance scans from 14 weeks of pregnancy onward.
